風景写真とは、風や水、土が作る自然史や人間の歴史が記述が織り混ざった織物とも言えるし、いや、全体を忘却したパズルのピースが散乱した吹き溜まりとも言えるかもしれない。しかし、どんな場所も孤島ではないし、ただ一つ明確なことは、風景は人の生よりも遥かに長い時間生き続けるものだということだ。人は泡沫（うたかた）の者として舞台から去っても、風景はサーキュレーションし続ける。例え破壊され、ショッピングセンターに姿を変えたとしても、何百年後にはまた、草地に戻っているかもしれない。風景に死はないのである。
小林正秀の写真は、物語ではない。また、今、ここの事実を示すよりも、遠い時間の向こうに向けて提示されている写真だ。そのような感覚で作られている。僕は確かに今、ここで小林正秀の写真を見ているのだが、同時に何百年後の存在となって見ている気分にさせられる。世界は移ろうから小林正秀の写真の風景は、今はもう無い。あるのは写真だけだ。小林正秀の写真というモノがあるだけだ。
さて、漂流し続けるのは、人間か、それとも写真か？

Dedicated to Masahide Kobayashi's Photography

Landscape photography can be seen as a tapestry shaped by the elements of wind, water, and earth, intertwined and woven as the written history of nature and humanity, or rather, it can be likened to a puzzle of which its complete picture has been forgotten and its pieces scattered like a snowdrift. However, no place is truly an isolated island, and the only certainty is that landscapes endure far beyond the span of human lives. Even as humans depart like fleeting foam, landscapes continue their cyclical existence. Even if they are ravaged and transformed into shopping centers, they might, centuries later, revert to meadows. Landscapes never die off.
Masahide Kobayashi's photographs transcend mere narratives. They don't so much portray the current reality as they project an image directed toward epochs in the distance. Such is their essence. While I am undoubtedly presently beholding Masahide Kobayashi's photographs, simultaneously, I find myself perceiving them as an existence belonging to centuries ahead. Given that the world is in constant flux, the landscapes captured in Masahide Kobayashi's photographs no longer exist. Only the photographs endure. The entity of Masahide Kobayashi's photographs remains.
Now, is it humanity or photographs that continue to drift?

Masahide Kobayashi

Born in 1980 in Mimasaka City, Okayama.
He completed the Silver-Halide Photography course at the Bigakko Okayama School in 2015.

His recent solo exhibitions include:
